I really have no
expectations for The Glass Castle other
than what I’ve heard from other people. I know that it’s a memoir about
Jeannette Walls’s life. I’ve also heard that it’s very interesting and that
there are many sad or disturbing moments within the book so I’m prepared for
that. I expect there are going to be some “hard to read” portions in the book
that will take me a while to take in and understand what’s happening. The title
“The Glass Castle” could be referring to her house or household. Glass is
fragile, so it could symbolize how easily her family could fall apart. The
Castle could symbolize her house hold since someone would live in a castle. I
hear that there are many family issues in the book so therefore it’d make sense
if the Glass Castle represented them. I selected this book because I’ve heard
many good things about it. A hesitation I had was that it does contain
disturbing scenes or sad parts in the book which may not be ready for. I do
doubt any if the scenes could be that bad if the school approved of the book
though. I anticipate having to pause a
lot in the book in order to fully comprehend what’s being said or what’s going
on since there’s supposedly a lot to take in. I don’t know anything about the
author which doesn’t give me any expectations besides what I’ve heard from
others but I’m excited to begin reading it.
